Tyson is an 18 month old Pit Bull with lots of love to share. He is a great dog who enjoys lounging around the house or playing in the yard. He loves to chew on his toys or rawhide bones. Tyson is a wonderful alarm when visitors arrive. He enjoys our family and welcomes most visitors. I say "most" because Tyson is not a fan of children (except for ours- whom he loves to play and lick...). Children make him nervous, he panics and becomes defensive. Being parents of 2 young children who frequently have friends over, it has become quite a challenge for us to balance Tyson's anxiety needs with our family's needs. Considering this, we need to find a home for Tyson that better matches his needs.
Thank you
I can definately understand your reservation with Tyson. I am 35 and my family has owned pit bulls for 30 years and Tyson is the first to display anything but love (and slobber) for kids. We were hoping to find him a good home with someone who could provide an environment that matched his needs.
My husband and I have recently gone through the same issue. We adopted a dog at six months, and while he was great with adults and even other dogs, by 9 months he was agressive towards children. He was ok if they aproached him calmly like an adult, but any wild kid behavior caused him to lash out. To me it looked like the same prey drive he showed towards cats and squirels, but I think there was an element of panic there too. Ultimately we had to make the heartbreaking choice to have him euthanised, for everyones safety. We did spend months working with trainers, behaviorists, medication, and I thought the same thing, that he just needed a home where he was always with adults, but ultimately we couldn't pass that burden on. Good luck, however things turn out.
