Colby's Book of the American Pit Bull Terrier

Colby's Book of the American Pit Bull Terrier By Louis B. Colby

This is one of my favorite books on the APBT. This book takes you from the origins of the APBT in this country right through the 1990's. It covers the foundation dogs in the Colby line, breeding philosophies, stories, pedigrees and more. There are tons of great vintage pictures pictures in this book also. The best part is it's written by the source, Louis was heavily involved with these dogs from a very young age, and still carries on to this day. If you're interested in the history of the APBT in this country, this is a must have.

Today's dogs and us as owners should be thankful for the many a great pitbulldogs that Mr. Colby and his family have provided for us...

Another great read. Although I think the pictures are fabulous (including dogs from the Colby Line, old newspaper ads, etc.), and I am glad that it included many pedigrees my honest opinion is that it lacks substance. Call me a tough critic, but I would have like to see alot more info, or maybe it was simply the fact that I blew right through because of my interest level in the content. Either way I do recomend this book for any and all APBT owners. I could have done with alot of the dialogue from Diane Jessup, and the fact that they labored to demonstatrate that he and Mr. Lou Colby "agree to disagree" on some imporant subjects.

I agree on enjoying this book. I love the sturdy hardcover format, the fact that it is a bit of a memoir and as stated, the terrific vintage photographs of the Colby dogs. A teenager in the 80s I always looked at the Colby line as "THE" line that started so much of what the PIt Bull is today (before the Bully fads). He was the northeast's PIt Bull "father", if you will.
